Ciutadella an historic town that has held up well to the pressure of
tourism in the twentieth century. It was originally named by the
Carthaginians who called it Jamma, and was the original capital of
Menorca until the British came along and moved it to Mahon in the
eighteen century. But Ciutadella still remains the religious capital
of Menorca. |
|
|
|
|
| |
Most
people will enter Ciutadella for the first time by road driving past
the new statue, on the roundabout on the new city bypass. It is a
magnificent statue of a rearing stallion and symbolizes the famous
Ciutadella fiesta "Fiesta de San Juan". Usually celebrated at the
end of June, not to be missed if your lucky enough to be here when
it is on. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
The
harbour a narrow inlet is one of the smallest ports in the
Mediterranean. Here, sitting in good company, at one of the harbour
side cafe's you can experience to me what Menorca is all about.
Relaxed and bathed in sunshine watching the boats bob up and down
and the people strolling by the worries of the world vanish.
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
One of
best places to view the harbour is from the main square, Plaza de's
Born. The centre of the square is dominated by an obelisk which
commemorates the defence of the city in 1558 when It was attacked by
the Moors. |

Aqua Park in Cala Forcat is a water
park. It's not very big and really wouldn't be of much interest to
the older child but it is perfect for 3-9 yr. olds. There are a few
short flumes, slides etc. The park is extremely clean, the
restaurant is good value ( great pizzas ) and best of all it is very
safe for the little ones ( enclosed, lifeguard etc. ) you pay one
price which covers the whole day - under 3's free and this included
a bouncy castle play area. Throughout the day you can come and go as
you please -they just stamp your hand so you can get back in. It
opens at 10 am and shuts around 6
The park can be found on the main road going into Cala Forcat - near
to Hotel Los Delphines. |
|

Shopping |
|
| |
|
|
| |
There is an abundance of Shops in Cala'N Forcat selling just about
any souvenirs, clothing, food or article you might need whilst on
Holiday. If you're self catering the cheapest shops for food,
etc. are generally to be found on the main street running through
the resort. The local supermarkets within the apartment complexes,
whilst being nearer, do tend to charge higher prices for that
privilege. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Recommended Supermarket (Supermarcado): The "Tesco" in the circular
"Centro Comercial" Shopping arcade on the main street. Cheap and
well stocked with all the "essentials" you may need. Advertised "Tesco"
name in window as they carry imported "Tesco" own brand goods too. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
The
"Centro Comercial" is a circular winding arcade of small shops
selling just about anything you could want, that you walk round via
an upwardly winding mall that ends at the top by "Bar Davids". You
can get some great photos of the area from this viewpoint. This
arcade also features the only dedicated "Tobac" shop for all those
tobacco products you may want to bring home.. Also the "Perfum"
store here sells a wide range of perfumes and cosmetics at
reasonable prices. |
